German Course Descriptions:

GERMAN 1:
(3 hours per week for 6 weeks)

This course is designed for students with little or no prior knowledge of German. The course introduces the fundamentals of the German language, including pronunciation. The students will be introduced to the four basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. In this course we will talk about German culture. Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to carry on a basic German conversation, as well as read and write sentences using the grammatical structures and the vocabulary learned. The Introduction and Chapter 1 of the textbook will be covered. Students who successfully complete this course should be able to:

• Pronounce German vowels and the “Umlaute” (ä, ö, ü)
• Exchange greetings, both formal and informal
• Ask people who they are
• Introduce oneself
• Give and receive personal information

This course is for adult learner, and it builds on the knowledge acquired in German 1. The focus is on expanding students' vocabulary, fluency, and grammar knowledge. We will continue to develop the four basic language acquisition skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening. We will continue to delve into German culture. The goal is for students to be able to hold a simple conversation in German. Chapters 2 and 3 of the textbook will be covered. Students who successfully complete this course should be able to:

We offer private German language lessons. Private lessons are $80 per hour for 1 to 4 students. We will schedule lessons based on the availability of the student(s) and teacher. Start dates are flexible. Please register at least 2 weeks before your first lesson.
