Arabic Course Descriptions:

Arabic 1:
(3 hours per week for 6 weeks)

This is a beginner-level modern standard Arabic language course designed for students who have little or no prior Arabic learning experience. Students are introduced to the four basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, as well as to the Arab culture. An emphasis on sounds, vocabulary, and sentence patterns will establish strong communicative skills which students will be able to use in authentic contexts and role-playing scenarios. Students will practice basic conversations as well as read and write sentences using the structures learned. Units 1 to 3 of the textbook will be covered. The teacher will provide additional materials.

Students who successfully complete this course should be able to:

  • Write the Arabic alphabet (groups 1-3)
  • Greet someone and take leave
  • Pronounce vowels and consonants
  • Make simple sentences
  • Use personal pronouns and the proper gender of nouns
  • Discuss Arab culture and practices, and use Arab cultural expressions
  • Use demonstrative pronouns
  • Introduce yourself and your family
  • Talk about where you live and who you live with

Arabic 2:
(3 hours per week for 6 weeks)

This is a continuation of modern standard Arabic 1 language course. Students will continue to develop the four basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, as well as learn more about Arab culture. An emphasis on Arabic language expressions, vocabulary, and sentence patterns will establish strong communicative skills which students will be able to use in authentic contexts and role-playing scenarios. Students will practice simple conversations as well as read and write sentences using the structures learned. Units 4 to 6 of the textbook will be covered. The teacher will provide additional materials.

Arabic Conversation:
(2 hours per week for 6 weeks)

This class is open to students who have completed at least Arabic 1.  The goal of this class is to develop students' fluency and vocabulary in Arabic.  Students will practice dialogs and participate in discussions to develop their speaking skills in Arabic.  The teacher will guide conversations, present topics for discussion, and present media in Arabic. 

Arabic Private Lessons:

We offer Arabic language private lessons. Private lessons are $80 per hour for 1 to 4 students. We will schedule lessons based on the availability of the student(s) and teacher. Start dates are flexible. Please register at least 2 weeks before your first lesson.
