Spanish Course Descriptions:

Spanish 1:
(3 hours per week for 6 weeks)

This is a beginner-level Spanish language course designed for students who have little or no prior Spanish learning experience. Students are introduced to the four basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, as well as to Hispanic cultures. Upon completion of this course, students should be able to carry on basic conversations in the target language as well as read and write short passages using the structures learned. The teacher will cover the topics in Lección 1 and 2 of the textbook and provide additional resources. Students who successfully complete Spanish level 1 should be able to:

  • Exchange greetings
  • Use expressions of courtesy
  • Introduce themselves and someone else
  • Count from 1 to 1 million
  • Spell their names and other given words
  • Tell time
  • Use the present tense of 'ser','estar', and other common '-ar' verbs
  • Use definite articles 'el, la, los, o las' and indefinite articles 'un, una, unos, o unas'
  • Indicate the weekday, month, and year
  • Talk about school topics and classes
  • Discuss everyday activities
  • Ask for specific information
  • Describe the location of people and things

The level 2 Spanish course is designed for students who have completed level 1 language proficiency. Students will continue to develop their four basic skills (i.e. listening, speaking, reading, and writing) in Spanish and learn about Hispanic cultures. Spanish 10:
(3 hours per week for 6 weeks)

El curso de Español 10 (intermedio B1) está diseñado para estudiantes que han completado el nivel 9 de dominio del idioma.  Los estudiantes desarrollarán su fluidez y ampliarán su vocabulario.   En este nivel, aprenderán estructuras complejas y profesionales del español, idioma coloquial, fonética, y ortografía.  Las lecciones del curso de Español 10 se completan en seis cursos consecutivos de 6 semanas.  

Los estudiantes que completen Español 10 deberían poder: 

  • Hablar sobre costumbres sociales, el léxico del ámbito laboral, el léxico del cine y entretenimiento, aspectos de la vida social y administrativa, activismo social, psicología, tecnología, ciencia, y  la cultura popular. 
  • Usar recursos para: contar anéctotas, mostrar desacuerdo en diversos registros, suavizar un expresion de desacuerdo, contraargumentar.

Spanish Private Lessons:

We offer Spanish language private lessons. Private lessons are $80 per hour for 1 to 4 students. We will schedule lessons based on the availability of the student(s) and teacher. Start dates are flexible. Please register at least 2 weeks before your first lesson.
